Data & licensing
Everything we publish is built from public records and meant to be reused — by journalists, researchers, organizers, and other databases. No signup, no API key, no paywall.

Facilities (campus-level)
Every tracked campus: name, status, operator, ultimate parent, MW, water, coordinates, confidence grade, source URL. Regenerated daily from the live database.
A full public API with abatements, violations, and per-row provenance is planned. Need a slice we don't publish yet? Ask — we'll usually just run the query for you.
License
The database is licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL 1.0). You can copy, modify, and build on it — including commercially — as long as you attribute and share derivative databases under the same license. Share-alike isn't a quirk: our facility spine includes OpenStreetMap-derived data, whose terms travel with it, and it also means nobody can take this commons private.
Prose, analysis, and original graphics are CC BY 4.0.

Citation must not state or imply that we endorse your analysis. For per-figure citations, every facility page links its primary sources — cite those too; they're the record.
What you should know before reusing
- Counts are campus-level: building rows are rolled up so one hyperscale site isn't counted thirty times.
- Every row carries a confidence grade. “Operating” requires two independent sources; single-source rows are marked “mapped”.
- Coverage is uneven and we say exactly where — see the coverage scorecard.
- Errors get fixed in public, in the corrections log.
Full reuse terms live in the terms of use.
